2200 Guru's... I need some help identifying this..
Monday, August 28, 2006 6:16 PM
So yea... on stock wires, stock coil pacs, delco plugs, my car still misfires and my mufflers always seem to have a nice amount of black carbon build up on them. I decided to tear into a few things tonight looking for bad grounds, or anything that looked outta place... I then stumbled upon this....

Obviously its a vaccume line, but does anyone know what it goes to? I'm thinking maybe the FPR? I am going to continue to rip more apart since i have never been able to get this deep to clean. Probably down to the TB and clean that up a bit. I have been getting extremly bad gas milage since last year.

Any help? Thanks guys!

DOesn't look familiar right off the top of my head. I'd say pull the loom apart and see where it goes.

The grey part of the wire runs into the cabin through the rubber boot thing on the firewall. If that helps anyone?

My haynes manual dosn't say @!#$, but i can see it in alot of the pics in chap 2 and 4.

That would probably explain why the vent selector dosn't work anymore. Damn it, not the problem I was hopeing to fix, but i guess thats a start.

Any vacuum leak can affect your A/F mixture. Even a small leak like that can cause idle problems.

agreed...thats an HVAC vacuum line...tape it up with some teflon tape then wrap it in some other kind of tape just for a temporary solution for diagnostic purposes...thatll tell you for sure if thats causing your other issues.

I would just cut it off where it's split then get replace that section with a piece of vacumm line and make sure the line is secured on it with maybe a zip tie on each end.

I cut the bad portion out of the line and re-shoved it into that black connector thingy, I tore out my TB and checked all the vaccume lines, the one running to the FPR had a little knick in the line, but didn't go all the way through, so i put some black tape on that and wire loom to it wouldn't rub on the Mass air flow sensor. Or atleast i think thats what it is on the intake manifold below the TPS. Then it also dawned on me, these problems arose after i installed my Tach adaptor for my Autometer tach last fall. I used wire crimps, so I am in the process of ripping that apart and soldering them this time around. I guess only time will tell if those things cure the problem. Atleast i will get my vent selector back! Woo hoo!

Well just finally got the car all put back together. I threw the MSD coil pacs in and left the Nology hotwires off since I don't want to deal with them. So while tearing my ignition/ intake apart here is the things i found extremly wrong..

1) Nice slash in the HVAC Vac line - Woot... my vent selector works again and makes vrooosh noises like it use to.
2) Idle air control valve was blacker than night. Cleaned the entire TB with Carb cleaner and the valve.
3) Minor wear on the Vac line to the FPR.
4) Where my remote starter was hooked up to the 6 pin tower plug had cut the wire and wasn't making proper connection. I tore it off and fixed the wire.
5) My tach adaptor was connected to the 2 pin harness and splice into the pink wire with wire crimps.. tore that apart and soldered everything.
6) The ground wire for the tach adaptor was loose as all hell... I think this was the misfire culprit. I'm just ashamed of myself that i didn't check that first.

.... Took the car out for a spin and burried the pedal to the floor.... seems like she has alot more power now for some reason, probably that vac line that was slashed was killing my a/f ratio since i knew my gas milaged sucked balls. So for now, * crosses fingers* the problems have been dealt with. Thanks guys.....

Now I am off to go see Chris- AgentOmega with the sunfire he finally got working properly, pics will prolly be up later tonight of this meet.

- Cheers
