worth it to trudge on?

2000 Z24 - My motor has 115k miles now. I've done a good job maintaining oil changes and taking care of little things as far as I know. I have the following done to the engine:

motor mounts
short ram intake
56mm throttle body

and plan to do the following:
ported intake manifold
secret cam swap (have them already, just not installed)
header, hiflow cat, catback exhaust (all 2.25")

the real questions are... is it worth it to put the money into the motor? do these motors usually last a long time? I'm used to saabs where I could get 200k out of them easily... but I've heard bad things about the ld9s reliability. Is there any preventative measure I can take towards keeping the engine in great shape? It pulls hard as hell right now so I think it's in good shape mechanically. When I say "worth it" i don't mean worth it for the mods but I mean worth it for the life of the motor, will I just have to trash it 5 months from now?

My plan when the motor dies is to get an ecotec and save up for the hahn stage2 turbo kit... if my motor is on it's last leg I'll just start saving up now...

I've got a 98 2200, i know its not the same motor but from what i understand the 2.4s are a bit better at holding up, but i've got very mild modifications and just drive the hell out of the thing with 176k and not a single problem yet but i wouldnt take my word for it... i'd wait for someone who knows more about the 2.4s

Why not? Putting the cams in yourself is cheap. If you blow the motor, odds are you aren't going to damage anything you listed. You can always find a buyer for secret cams (they are becoming more and more scarce), and the other stuff shouldn't be too hard to sell either. Really you lose out on some gaskets, a bit of money, and some time. To me, it's a hobby that's worth it. Not a lot of free hobbies out there...

The 2.2L was listed near the top of a list of "Most Reliable Motors." But I always heard the 2.4L was not as good, and failed sooner. I bout my last Cavy for $1600 with 130,000 on it and I drove it till it had 180,000. It still ran just as good after i fixed the small things that went wrong, and I sold it for $1500. At least I have a new one now...
