Final Throttle Body Help
Friday, July 28, 2006 11:35 AM
I have searched and serached and I cant seem to get any good, reliable information because every other thread seems to say something differnt about the swap. So i have a few questions. I have a 98 Cavi 2200 engine.

1. The 2.3L TB is off of what year, make, and model?
2. Is the hassles worth it?
3. Vacum Problems: doesnt it split the vacum with the F or V
4. HO or LO? Differnce?
5. How much for boring out the stock TB to 56mm? and Where?
6. If i bore out mine, or even get a new one.. Do i need a plate?

That is all my questions for now, and sorry it is a very largely posted topic... I was getting confused on the differnt answers i was getting by reading.

Thanks Nari (Rod)

2) It depends on the person. What do you want from your car?

3) not quite understand you, However, you can easiel drill the 3/16 hole and add the 3/16th fuel line to make a new nipple for the extra vacume line. Some people a T connector, cheap easy to find, most some people still have problems with them.

4) No differance

5) You need to shop around. Open up your yellow page book and find a machine shop. Prices are differant everywhere. Average about $100

6) If your gonna bore it out, your gonna need a new plate. there is no way getting around that. And if you buy an upgraded tb, prepare to spend more then $150.

Wow thanks for the car list. So if i add a new vacumm hole, will that provide a good vacum supply? Cuz i heard that the V or F connectors split the suction, and that sometimes throws a CEL. Does a plate come with a TB from a junkyard (the 2.3 I mean.) And finally, Thanks.

Yes the plate will be there. And yes, adding a new vacume nipple works just fine.

Brad

I have a TB from a 93 Olds Achieva with the LD2, and use an F shapped T, and it works just fine, no CEL. As for splitting the suction, thats not true, pressure's even thruout i believe. My plate was part of the TB, if its properly assembled (ie not parted out), then yeah it should. You should also use the IAC and TPS from the 2.3 TB as well. Also, i'd recommed a 93 or later, as its a better matched design to what we have now (2.2 and 2.4).
