This weekend i am supposed to be picking up a new engine. Its out of a 2002 and im putting it in my 99 Z24 and i was wondering if there are any major complications that could prevent this from being possible. Also we are putting in a new clutch seeing as how the old one is stock and there were 80K miles on the car. If anyone knows any problems i would run into please let me know i want this to go smooth seeing as how ive been without a car since august. Also how much is a decent clutch? the cheapest ive found is around 250 but i know there has to be some a little cheaper then that, maybe 200 or so?
thanks
I'm pretty sure the wiring changed for the 2000 model year, so you would need all of the harnesses and computer from a newer Cav....still very doable, and it's been done before.
As far as the clutch is concerned, 250 is pretty cheap, depending on what type of clutch it is.
HUH??
There are some minor changed to the 2002 2.4 engine but from what i have seen you won't need all the wiring harness from the car. There is one thing that has to be done i can't remember what it is but in most is should be pretty much plug and play.

Yes the second half of the 99 motor is pretty much the same as the 00+ But isn't the 00+ cars have Digital gauge clusters? I wonder if that would need to be changed? I think most of these questions have been asked in the 3rd gen forum.

The guages don't have anything to do with the engine. Many people have swapped 2000+ engines into 96-99 cars with not problems. Only thing is if you want to do the whole swap with tranny and PCM & ECM.
As i said pretty much plug and play 96-98 have EGR's so that is an issue. so they have to use some part from their car i belive. Some have had to use a 99 ECU to over come that.

the best is to make sure you dont have egr , if it has egr then you have the early 99
and will have to do a little extra work
if it doesnt have egr then its a straight swap
How do you check to see if it has egr im not sure if it has it or not. its been about 5 months since its been running so i havnt touched it much.
Ok i was looking at clutches and do i get one that says 2.4 95-99 or 2.4 00-02 . it should be the 99 right? im jw not sure if it will interfere. or is the transmission on the 00-02 different?
thankx
Both transmission bolt up to the 2.4 engine no problem so you can use your tranny with 96-99 clutch.
