Throttle Bodies

I was just wondering what the stock throttle body size was for an Ecotec. And what is a core? RSM Racing has a $100 core charge, is that a part of it, or some other thing?
Thanks.

apparently the stock ecotec TB sizes vary. Mine and a few other 02 ecotecs from the area measures 56mm where some peoples measure 59mm quite weird. We found that out because I had a machine shop custom making me a throttle body.

core charge is something you are charged until you send your stock TB in, which then you receive that core charge back

Well usually when companies say a certain amount of gain, they usually mean "up to X HP". If you had a turbo car and put one on, 10+ HP is possible, it all depends on the application.

Basically, when it comes to modifying, you can't base what you do by advertised HP gains. One person can gain a different amount than another even with the same motor and modification, every car is different even if it seems the same.

As far as the throttle body goes, I noticed a slightly better pull but that was about it. I don't have any dyno numbers like Phil does. Is it worth it, depends on your future modifications. Also, velocity plays into effect and your powerband might get shifted upwards slighty because of the bigger size.

you'd have more gains from a larger throttle body if you were boosted. until that point, it's not really necessary.

That helps a lot, I think I'll stay away from that mod for a while.
