tranny swap or new car.

After reading everything on here ive come to a few conclusions. If i plan on changing my 2.4 auto to a 5spd it seems like i have to have a complete extra car to do it. so would it be better to just buy a new car on ebay or just try to find all of the necessary parts. all info is GREATLY appreciated..

It's really up to you.

Basically part wise, you would just need the transmission, tranny mounts, housing, tranny cables, clutch resevoir, shifter (basically anything that deals with the transmission) and the computer.

You actually a few options:

1. Keep your car, pay someone to do the swap because it's extensive work.
2. If you haven't put too much money into your car, sell it for a Manual car
3. Keep your auto and build up your auto transmission.

#3 is actually what I'm doing. I plan on turboing my Auto Sunfire and pushing some great #s on a STOCK TRANNY. Later next year, I'll work on my transmission but the 4T40e can handle lots of power with no modifications and I tend to proove that.

Good luck to whatever you decide to do. Peace.

I had my auto '96 set up almost exactly how I wanted it. Got bored of the auto and traded for a stick car. I kicked myself for that decision for about 3 years. Don't make my mistake.
If your current ride is "just so" to your tastes, put in the extra time and effort to install the 5-speed. You'll thank yourself later, despite the potential hassles.

Then again, if the current car is just a car to you and little else, go ahead and trade it out for something more appropriate to your wants and needs.

Have you seen the turbo wagon?

i like my car its, just that i love drivin stick. i dont wanna put a whole lot of work into an auto and then find out i could have gotten a stick. I guess I'll just build it up and then save up for the tranny swap.
