What exactly does an Auto Trans Interceptor do?

Re: Auto Trans Interceptor
Tuesday, September 06, 2005 4:35 PM
It tricks the computer into increasing the line pressure inside the transmission so the shifts are "quicker".

Turns up the line pressure in an automatic transmission, and makes it shift faster.

I would recommend this to anyone. In some cases, ive heard that its thrown a code....but nothing to searous.

Why don't they have it for 3 spds, i feel like upgrading mine to a 4 spd but i know that would be a waste of time and money.

I don't mean to thread jack, but increasing the line pressure...does that (over time of course) wear out the transmission faster than stock shifts? Just curious....

^^ Actually no, it reduces burnt clutches, by shifting softly it wears on your TCC more than making the shifts harder. Just read some info on them and you'll understand.

do they have anything for us 3 spds to increase line pressure without having to take our transmission apart?

event had a nice job done on his 3T04. i'd search for it but that's your job

and there is nothing for the 3spd because unlike the 3spd, the 4spd is electronically controlled

This is the same thing I'm assuming...B&M ShiftPlus Electronic Shift Improver..

Last time I use this thread, Steven Holliday. Again I apologize..

You got the right iea, but your a little off.

Basically the Intercetor has nothing to do with the TCC, which is the Torque Converter Clutch. That system functions independantly, locking the TC under light throttle in 3rd and 4th gear. Installing the Interceptor doesn't change that system.

The Interceptor actually increases the line pressue inside the transmission, which controls shift firmness and gear engagement. The higher the line pressure, the faster and harder it upshifts and downshifts.

The stock transmission line pressure is tuned for comfort and smoothness, meaning slow engagement and soft shifts. However, the longer a shift takes, the more wear there is on the internals (clutches, bands, ect.).

So by installing the Autotrans Interceptor or B&M Shiftplus, you are actually preventing wear on the internals by limiting (sometimes even eliminating) slippage during gear changes.

Hope that helps

Both of these do the same thing ...so why so much of a price gap? Any details that one does other than the other? RKSPORT has the interceptor for around 160$ while the B&M is around 60$...hmmm

The B&M is more like $35. Check carcustoms.net

Basically the interceptor is infinitely adjustable and plugs in without any splicing.

The B&M requires splicing and only has 2 firmer settings, but you can adjust it from inside the car. The B&M is definatley the most cost effective way in my opinion.

I'd rather pay the more money to not splice any wires and possibly mess something up...that's just me.

Karo from Car Customs is all im gonna say ... But aslong you solder just 2 little wires that is all you need to do and take your intake out for easier access.

I'd avoid splicing whenever possible... and not get the B&M

Alright... I ended up with the Autotrans Interceptor for the same reason...as much confidence as I have with re wiring...I'd rather not do it in the first place. I'll leave some info about how well it works if you guys want.... Thanks again.

If you are afraid of splicing a wire, maybe you shouldn't be modifing your car... Just my thoughts

Not afraid....just not skilled enough with any soldering yet... sticking to the bolt-ons and plug-ins right now.... but I'll work at it!

Alright! I installed my Interceptor last night and you can definately feel the difference in the shifts (well fake shifts because I was dumb and bought an auto). Anyways I went with about 30 psi increase and it feels awesome. You do feel like you are taking off a little quicker, but just because of the cleaner shifts. The only thing is that this shifting was what scared me earlier when I screwed up my air sensor installing my intake. Lol I paid $120 for what I had earlier by a screw up. But at least I can control it. I defiantely need to put my engine mounts in now as I can feel the tranny shifting a little harsher from park to drive and hopefully this will keep things a little steadier. Thanks for all of your input!!!
