Dynomax Super Turbo muffler question
Saturday, August 20, 2005 3:00 PM
My friend has a 2003 sunfire and he wanted a super turbo. His OEM muffler has been damaged. The rest of exhaust system is 100% stock by the way. So, he asked me what inlet and outlet size should he get. I told him try staying close to the stock size. Later that day, he told me that the muffler shop he went to has only 2 super turbo models available for immediate install are #17793 & #17769. Both have 3" inlet/outlet. The differences between those two are the length : one is 16" and the other one 20". I told him: "go for it, since it's not a free-flow muffler like a Borla or a Magnaflow so it should be too loud." Do you guys think that I gave him the right advice ?

Go to autozone and get the same muffler cheaper and also anywhere from 1 1/2" to 3" are always in stock.

I don't need no stinking SIG. Wait this is one.

I have a super turbo and I really like it. It has good flow and a nice sound when combined with a hi flo dynomax converter. Not too loud, a deep sound, not like a vaccum cleaner. lol.

Well...I'm not sure if that was bad advice or not but you could have told him better. The only reason I'm not sure if it is or isn't is because I'm not sure how hard it will be for the shop to weld on a 3" inlet muffler to a stock (assuming 2") piping. Also, tell your friend to look on-line and he should find it in 2 1/4"...most aftermarket companies sell them 2 1/4", 2 1/2" and some with a 3" inlet.

Also, are you sure that he didn't get confused and the shop told him it was a 3" OUTLET (Meaning the exhaust tip)?

Super turbo = OEM muffler. It has the same flow. Better buy the OEM one and forget about reducer.

I had Dynomax S-T and were insanely loud on the inside my cabin (resonance) when you are accelerating and a nice mellow tone on the outside. Tollerable in the hwy, just crazy on the city.
4 days later I was back to stock mufflers.

Tell him to go 2 inches.

UPDATE: I've just got off the phone with him and he brought a Super Turbo #17731 for 50$ CAN with tax. Now it has a 2.25" inlet / outlet and he's going to put a SS tip (I guess he figured out that the one before, the 3" one, was WAY too big ) Can't wait to hear it !
