where to start...

well. as previously stated i have purchased a 96 LS 2 door. the engine is seized, which i am rebuilding. are there any inexpensive things that i can do (aside from port and polish, re-cut the valve seats, etc... i have shop knowledge and tools) that i can do to squeeze any extra hp or torque from the 2.2?

If you haven't already started the rebuild, do an LD9 or the 98 + 2200. Better motors both... and everyone here knows it.

my 89 2.0 is actually quite a bit stonger than i could have imagined with only minor modifications, i removed the snorkel from the air box and put in larger wires and big block chevy plugs and i've made a gain of about 7-8 hp for about 30 minutes work...

This won't give you any power but help put it to the ground for about $10

the 2.2 block is durable. sleeves are thick, block can take a beating provided the rods and pistons are good. i'm not too sure about the crank or its durability. however the weakest link in this motor is in fuel system. there is basically no aftermarket support for the fuel system due to the injector style. you can get much more power out of a 2.4 or a 2200.
