Please can someone give me a clue on the gap for NGK Iridium IX's for a 03 cavi..2.2 eco? i know diffrent types use diffrent gaps(ac delco,platinums)..i tried right out of box..figured they were pregapped..it made my car idle alittle higher and exhaust got alittle deeper and lots of popping when down shifting..

Thought Iridium and platinum plugs are factory set and should not be gapped??

Correct. Go to your local parts place and order a set of the Iridium IX plugs for your year / model and they will already be gapped properly.

thats the thing..they were for my car..i already got them..inalled them without messing with them..it makes my car idle alittle higher..and makes my exhaust have alot of popping when downshifting..it didnt do any of that with the ac delcos that were in there..I want to get the popping to quit is that fuel not being burnt or what?

i would not trust the pre gap some of these plugs have. just double check to be sure.
i ran these plugs for awhile in my car. they caused a rough idle and a missfire on cylinder 3. i took them out and checked the gap. one was .040 , another was .045, and another was .038

Yeah,
I installed the IXs.
And I may be getting misfire codes.

I've f-ed up the gap on el cheapo plugs and never had problems so I'll try them first.

Always check the gaps before installation, regardless if they are pre gaped. Think of it as cheap insurance.

Now if you rip the plugs out of my car, and check the gaps, you will find them all different.

Each cylinder is running a bit off from where they should be. #1 is running rich, #2 is running lean, #3 is perfect, and #4 is is going lean, at idle.

For this reason, im preparing for an engine swap. There is too much damage to fixwith a limited budget. Its actually cheaper to swap in an eco, then to repair my 2200.

Then again, i have had an Eco sitting in my storage room, for about 8 months now, just need a pcm and harness.

Odd enough. My car runs absolutely perfect with the TR6's and they were pregapped. I never checked but I never once had any wierd sounds.

That's not the gap. NGK measures gapping in milimeters. 55 -> Heat Range = 5.5
Check this out: NGK Spark Plug Chart

i just asked the same thing about a week or 2 ago. i bought the iridium ix's and checked the gap anyways and they were all different .038 .054 .060 and .062 . i first gapped them at .050 cause thats what the manual says but i changed them again to .055 cause there was carbon build up after only a couple of days running at .050 anyways try setting them at .055. lol.

ok..the latest..I spoke with the NGK tech supervisor today...here is what i found
NGK does NOT make a Iridium spark plug for the 2.2 ecotech yet..they are diffrnt from most 4 cyl. heads..and said the jack ass that sold me these was an idiot..they are too short..and stupid me didnt check that before trying them..duh..but said they do make double platinums for my 03 cavli..gap set should be at .50..also said that there competitor..wouldnt say who it was..DOES make the iridiums for my car..starts with a D is all he could tell me~LMAO~so im taking my TR55IX's back this weekend and going to try the double plats...if i cant figure out what the other company is...hmmm
