I'm going to be replacing the spark plugs on my 03 Sunfire. I was just wondering what suggestions you all my have on what are the best plugs I can get for a stock my 2.2 ECOTEC. I've been looking at what's available and so far I've been leaning towards these two choices:
1)
Denso's Iridium power spark plugs
2)
NGK: IX iridium
I don't want to replace them with the plain old stock plugs. I'm looking to get something a little more durable, and performance. What do you think of the two above? Any other better choices you can suggest?
I also had questioned about upgrading spark plug wires and was told that ECOs don't use spark plug wires and that the coil makes direct contact with the spark plugs.
Quote:
99redz24 is correct, you have an ignition system on your car that doesn't use wires. The coil packs make direct contact with the plugs.
Is there anyway I can upgrade the set up I have now besides getting better spark plugs?
keep your stock platnium plugs
this is a good question, i upgraded to bosche platinum 4 plugs, or *maybe it wasnt an upgrade* but i felt the engine was running better with them installed. does ac delco make performance plugs for me to put in?

complete waste of money. I worked in an autoparts store for the better part of 13 months and we hardly ever sold em. Go with the NGK's or stock ac delco platinums.
the denso iridiums wear out a lot faster then normal plugs, usually within 5k miles. think about it they were manufactured for HIGH hp race cars that only raced a few hrs if that. so why would thye be built to last?

Do the NKG Iridiums wear out as quick too?
denso irr. are great and a direct fit 25mm

TURBO KIT...$4,000
RUNNING 20 PSI...ANOTHER $2,000
SMOKING THE TIRES ON A 3RD GEAR ROLL...PRICELESS
I Got Some Delcos LOVE EM
just stick with your stock ones. your not gonig to gain any power by switching plugs

Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
yeah theres no power increase, but if you can get some extra spark for that fuel im all about it. the iridiums wear out huh...hmmm....do the delcos only come in single prong plugs?

So basically the iridiums don't last longer than platinum plugs like they claim to? A lot of the reviews claim that iridium is more durable than platinum. False advertisement. Bastids...
I have the NGK iridiums and they are great. I also changed my wires so that the plugs were getting the proper amount of current for maximum efficiency (Accel 300+). I think that perhaps the people that are having problems with the iridiums are running stock wires which have too much resistance for the iridiums.
Okay,
How about the E3 new plugs. Apparently they are technologically advanced compared to anything out there. I have a set of NGK's, and would like to know if you guys have heard anything about the E3
My NGK Iridium's are almost 2 years old, do I need to replace them?
Thanks
"FRIENDS DON'T LET FRIENDS DRIVE STOCK"
makes sense that they could only improve upon the iridium design through testing of the electrode head....I dunno
NGK iridiums are supposed to last 5 years/100 000km aren't they? Just check them. If they are all black they probably need replacement. If the electrode is gone, you probably need new ones. If your engine is misfiring, you might need new ones...lol
my car doesnt have spark plug wires...how would i upgrade it...new coils and an ignition module? what does a new module do anyways....and would a new distributor be needed?

what about performance distribution coils?
This should be put in Maintance section!!

Well do you all remember those spark plugs that came out, they still sell them in some auto parts stores they are called split fire plugs. Those NGK iridiums are the same deal, Waste of money in my opinion. Bosch / AC delco's are the way to go. Some people have a little problem with their cars idle with Bosch platiniums, Still their is no gain in power with NGK iridiums, Its just a fancy corp sales line of products.
