I would suggest investing 12 dollars in a haynes manual before you go tearing apart a motor.

read through the entire manual then before touching any of it they are very resourceful and honestly your question will be answered along with many others about your car

okay guys...ive got the valvle cover, exhaust mani, intake mani, power steering off...just wondering...do i have to take the valve springs out to take the head off? Cuz there looks to be bolts under the valve springs...but in the picture of the manual it looks different

Valve springs should stay attached.

with the valve cover, PS, and manifolds off... pull the crank pulley, timing chain cover, cam sprokets, timing chain, remove the head bolts 1/4 turn at a time from the middle out. Be careful when you pull the head, to keep track of the lifters and fully remove the head gasket. If you still have probs let me know I have pix of the whole process.

Why the hell would he pull the crank pulley, or the timing assembly???????? They have NOTHING to do with the head, do not listen to this guy.

Because the timing chain housing is bolted to the cylinder head. You cannot remove those bolts unless you remove the crank pulley, timing cover, timing chain, tensioner, guides, cam sprockets, and timing chain housing.

Thank you, drive through.

Unless of course its not a 2.4... in which he should just have to remove the power sterring and upper engine mount bracket.

it is a 2.2...

there is a pully on the side of the head...but it is attached by a big allen wrench...

then there is a bolt uner it that i cant get to unless i get the pully off...

I didnt think it was an allen wrench make sure on mine i needed to get a tool from auto zone to remove the pully. Now i have a question since i am in the process of putting mine back on. Is there timing that needs to be done when you put it all back together? since it is belt driven? just thought i would double check.

What pulley are you removing? You shouldn't have to remove any pullies to remove the head as I recall. The power steering pump will come off as a whole assembly if that is what you are talking about.

As I recall that should come off with the pump as a whole assembly, somethin like 3 bolts or something. You shouldn't have to remove the pulley itself.

power steerring pump is on a bracket.... theres no need for removing any pulleys when taking off a 2.2 cylinder head. already replaced a 95 2.2 this year, both of fallen angels 2.2 ohvs last year, and a 2200.

if you remove pulleys, you are removing FAR too much.

on a 2.2 the timing chain isnt apart of the head. the cam is in the block along with the crank.

removing the powersteering pump is 3 13mm bolts, which you access through the holes in the pulley and a 10mm on the exact OPPOSITE side.

then you remove the pump and pulley as one piece from the bracket cradle.

the timing for a 2.2 is enclosed and runs off a chain and tensioner.

the serpentine belt can snap, and at most you will lose charging and accesories like water pump and power steering.

the belt has no impact on the cam to crank timing chain which is fully enclosed in the block.

Like Grizbone said., there are about 3 bolts right behind the power steering pump pulley.....Those 3 holes on the pulley are there for easy access to the bolts. You should be able to leave the pulley on there.
