Chain Tensioner probs?
Tuesday, June 21, 2005 3:41 PM
I got my fully built motor back from the shop and it seems with the titanium valve springs in it the chain wants to slap around too much.Has anyone upgraded their springs to bigger(stiffer)and had problem of not enough tension on the chain any more?We put in a brand new tensioner and it didnt fix the prob.Any ideas?

correct me if im worng, but i thought the tensioner was pumped up by oil pressher.
so if the chain was loose wouldent it meen that either the shoue guids are warn or the tensioner is warn out.

The tensioner is hydraulically controlled by oil pressure. If the tensioner wasnt working you should here a ticking type of noise from that area of your car and no you wont be able to here the noise if your in the car.

also the tensioner when pushed in to a certian point will lock , and it will unlock with a quick hit to the plunger

if your chain is rattling , either the tensioner isnt right , or the chain guides are bad or missing , there is a whole bunch of them

also if your head was decked , they might have taken to much off , and that might cause the slack in the chain
