Problem with car idleing to HIGH

Ok well as you all know im totally revamping my car. Well about 2 months ago i finished my gas pipe relocation to the trunk. So i decided to change the oil and get a new battery to see how my car accepted the change. It started up great and ran good.

Well i took apart some various engine pieces so I could paint them for ex; valve cover, cold air intake, alternator bracket. And i had to take the alternator off to polish it. well last night I got it put all back together and fired the engine up. To my surprise its idleing pretty high. I dont have a tach so i cant tell you how high but by my guess around 3500 rpm.

Ive went over all of the plugs i had to unplug when i took my stuff off, and there all connected.. Any ideas guys?

Thanks,

Derrick Hudson

The IAC motor probably forgot where it was, I say let it run for about 15 minutes at idle and see if it calms down. If it doesn't, then you disconnected a vacuum connection and forgot to hook it back up.

Yeah I did notice the vacum connection was unplugged last night. I pluged it in and nothing changed. And today I let it run for about 10 minutes it seemed like it fluctuated a little bit then it died. I started it right back up ran for like 5 secs and died again. I havnt messed with it since.

make sure the screw is not out of adjustment on the TB and that your throttle cables arent sticking

that definately sounds like an idle air valve issue or vacume leak. the reason it started and ran for awhile is the engine was still in cold start enrichment. and had enough fuel to run with all that unexpected extra air. once it warmed up and the computer leaned out to normal it ran lean as hell with the extra air from the leak and wouldint idle properly anymore. chek the wires for the idle air valve and make extra sure that all your vacume connections are good.

Thanks for your help ill give that a try tonight..

I think it is a vacum leak somewhere b/c the engine sounds very loud.. but i cannot locate it... and my car ran extremly hot in the 2 minutes i had it on. It stunk up the entire shop like crazy..
