Gas Mileage
Monday, August 01, 2005 7:01 AM
I think i may have somewhat figured my low gas mileage problem.

"Combining errands into one trip saves you time and money. Several short trips taken from a cold start can use twice as much fuel as a longer multipurpose trip covering the same distance when the engine is warm. Trip planning ensures that traveling is done when the engine is warmed-up and efficient."

I drive 2-3 miles to work then 3-4miles i go to the gym, gas station, mall, store.

longer trips also make your oil happy also , cause it has a chance to get hot and burn out any contaminants

I can't believe you only get 17 - 20 in the city. I have never got that bad of mileage from my Z24. I get about 32-33 on the highway and around 26-27 in the city. I would say that something isn't quite right with your car. Sorry to hear it. Hope you find out why the bad gas mileage.

I got this from anothr site may be i should have bolded it. I think this is why my gas mileage is bad. I drive 2-3 miles to work then 2-3 miles back home. Then 3-4miles i go to the gym, gas station, mall or store. I start the car run for minute and off i go. So I guess all those trip i take a day from cold start is what is kiling me. I bet most of you don't take about 5-10 min to get to work then home for lunch then pick up daughter and then home. According the website i found with this statement this is the reason my gas mileage is not so great. I bet most of you have Drive in the City drive at least 20-30mins to get to work.

Me thinks you may have a problem. I have an 04 5spd and i'm getting almost 40 on the highway with the cruise on. What all do you have done?

i feel you on the many quick trips, i had to do that all the time when i was stationed at fort polk. well i shouldn't say had to but in 100+ degree heat with 80%+ humidity wearing long sleeved everything and a wool brain boiler all day long because the person deciding on uniforms gets cold in their air conditioned office you don't want to take nature walks all day, leading to an assload of short trips.

i saw the quotes and was just trying to make a suggestion, sorry if you took it wrong. personally i do drive quite a bit for work but it is longer drives, mostly freeway, 70%, and was getting aboot 29-30 mpg on my 2200 with 110000+ miles. after opening up the breathing, I/H/HFC/E, and not driving like i think i am going for the pole position constantly (not saying you do) i am now getting 32-36(best tank since exhaust)mpg. next comes a tb from a 2.3, if it helps it helps, if not i figure i will still be ahead of where i was. if it kills it for some reason then i swap back.

looking at your profile you have a lot more power adders than i and a different engine so things obviously will be different. once again good luck if you are trying to do something aboot your mileage, if not, drive it like you stole it.

I hardly do any highway driving. The last time my car did any highway driving was in April. I have, header intake, exhaust, cams, pulley, TB, both mounts, Had the reflash done on my car, changed IAT, O2 seonsors, Coil packs plugs, wireing. Have used injectors cleaner but as i said i hardly drive more than 20-30mins in my car and when i do that is on the weekends. As i say by the time my car really warms up i am already at work. Highway mileage is not a problem i have no problem there. I got even 35mpg on a trip about a while ago. It is just my city mileage. I have done all sorts of things and nothing has worked. I think my car use to have this gas mileage in the city when i got it but because gas was cheap then i paid no attention now gas prices are up i notice it more. I may at most drive about 8 miles a day. I put on about 500-600 miles a month on my car.

You have no idea how envious I am, 2-3 miles to work! It's 70 miles 1 way for me, if I
were you, I'd ride a bike, walk or roller blade when weather permitted.

Get a scooter... 100 miles per tank. 35mph should be fast enuf for 2-3 miles. Depending on where you live, you will not need an endorsement since it is under 50cc.

You have all that done to your car and you can't figure out why your gas mileage sucks?
Good God man it should be pretty self explainitory. Your car is only a couple steps short of being bad ass right now your just above wow!

I guess but i drive like a granny about 80% of the time. I have my daughter with me nearly all the time so i can't drive like a fool. I guess between both what can i expect. I removed my Nology Coil Packs i am thinking of putting them back on.
