3 problems... need 3 fixes..
Sunday, April 05, 2009 1:09 PM
So there's 3 things that my sunfire needs fixed... I'm pretty sure I know how to fix 2 out of the 3 but comments would be welcomed on all 3...

Problem #1 - Passenger side door... the window will go all the way down... but the motor seems to cut out while putting the window up.. it stops at exactly half way up. I have to wait about 5 minutes then i can put the window all the way up...

Solution to problem #1 - Replace the motor assembly... now I've done this before so it's not that big of a deal.. but is there anything i should double and triple check before proceeding with the replacement?? the car has a brand new battery so amperage shouldn't be the issue....

Problem #2 - Just over the past 2-3 weeks the temperatures have finally started to heat up a bit... ever since we've been starting to get -5 - +10 Celsius weather I've noticed a whistling sound coming from my drivers side window.... upon inspection it does not appear as if the weather stripping, that sits beside the B-pillar, is sitting flush with the window... it appears as if its sitting a bit raise. Therefore my theory is that wind is catching the little bit of gap that's lifted and is causing the whistling

Solution to problem #2 - Replace the weather stripping. Now this is pretty easy to do... however is there anything else i should be checking?? i've pulled back the weather stripping and fully cleaned everything to the best of my ability... i've inspected the b-pillar and it's sitting good nothing appears to be pressing on the weather stripping.

Problem #3 - Now this is the biggest problem I have... It's with the A/C.... If I start my car with A/C turned on then the A/C turns on 100% fine and i can switch to any a/c setting with it blowing strong and cold. However if I fail to start the car with A/C on or if I turn the A/C off while driving I cannot turn the A/C back on. It simply doesn't engage. So at that point the only way to start the A/C again is to stop driving... and turn the vehicle off... once the vehicle is off I can re-start the vheicle and turn the A/C on again and it will work... as long as I turn the A/C on within 10-20 seconds of starting the car....

This is the only problem I do not have a solution to.. I'm almost getting to the point where I'm just going to give my car over to the stealership so they can find the problem and fix it but I'm afraid it may run up a large bill since I cannot diagnose whats wrong with it...

Any help??

OK, about the AC.
The fact that it will ALWAYS work if you turn it on before starting tells me that you have power to your AC clutch.
I am wondering if the electro magnet is weak on the clutch? If it is locked on stationary it will spin the compressor but if it needs to engage a spinning pulley that it doesn't have the power to lock in?
If you drive long enough to cool off the cabin and for the AC to cycle on and off does it continue to operate? (once the cabin reaches the cold temperature the ac clutch will release and then be re energized as the temperature warms up and more cooling is neede)

A/C works perfectly once it's on.... the clutch seems to be working perfectly...

if I accidentally turn it off... I have about 5-10 seconds to hit it back on and the clutch will engage once again..

now there may be a issue with the pressure sensor... it looks like one of the wires leading to the pressure sensor might be damaged.... would a faulty sensor cause this?

Hi,

The AC pressure switch is a low cut off switch. It will prevent the system from having AC if you have a low freon (generic term, freon is old news) level in the system. With the gas the system is always pressurized which the switch senses and completes the circuit . When charging an AC system you actually bypass that switch to make the system operate.

Yes, bad wires could very well cause problems. Fix any wires that look iffy for they could be making sporatic connection.

I will say, this is an odd problem you have.
